Fleas control

The adult fleas biting your ankles are only about five percent of the problem. The rest, the eggs, larvae and pupae, are in the carpet, the bedding and the soil, waiting to hatch. That’s why fleas come roaring back after a single spray. We treat for the whole life cycle.

Signs you have them

How to tell it’s fleas.

  • Itchy bites around ankles and lower legs
  • Pets scratching, or flea dirt (black specks) in their coat
  • Tiny dark insects jumping in carpet or bedding
  • A flare-up after a property has been vacant for a while
The whole problem

Why a single spray never holds.

Why one spray never holds
Eggs 50% Larvae 35% Pupae 10% Adults 5%
95% is hidden in carpet, bedding and soil. A spray can’t reach it.
Only 5% is what bites your ankles.
Our treatment uses a growth regulator, so it breaks all four stages, not just the adults.
How we treat it

Our approach to fleas.

We treat inside and out with an APVMA-registered product that includes an insect growth regulator, so it breaks the life cycle and not just the adults. We focus on carpet, pet resting areas, skirting and the yard. Your part is vacuuming thoroughly and treating the pets with your vet’s product at the same time, which we’ll walk you through.

Safety: APVMA-registered products, child and pet safe once dry (usually two to four hours). Fish tanks and bird cages need covering, tell us and we’ll handle it.

Fleas is treated as part of our general pest treatment service.

Questions, answered

Fleas, common questions.

Why did the fleas come back a week after I sprayed? +
Because a basic spray kills adult fleas but not the eggs, larvae and pupae, which are the vast majority and are protected in carpet, bedding and soil. As they hatch, the infestation rebuilds. A treatment with a growth regulator breaks that cycle, which is the difference between a fix and a repeat.
Do I need to treat my pets as well? +
Yes, at the same time. Treating the house without treating the animals (or vice versa) leaves a reservoir, so they bounce back. Use your vet’s product on the pets while we treat the property, and the two together actually clear it.
What do I need to do before and after? +
Before: vacuum thoroughly (it stimulates pupae to hatch so the treatment reaches them) and wash pet bedding. After: keep off treated surfaces until dry, then keep vacuuming every couple of days for a fortnight. We give you the full aftercare on the report.
